What's with the Name?
Many people are unfamiliar with the name, JC Bocatas. The J is for Jose and the C is for his wife, Claudia. “Bocatas” is from the Spanish word, bocata or bocadillo (baguette in France or torta in Mexico) refers to “bread” or a sandwich made with bread. At JC Bocatas, we make our bocatas with only the finest ingredients and with the most creative and satisfying flavors.
From humble beginnings as a dishwasher to Executive Chef, Jose Saenz now brings his passion for creative and soul-lifting food to you. As a dishwasher at Hannah’s Restaurant in New Buffalo, Michigan, Jose grew in experiences and quickly rose to the position of sous-chef. Not to be content, over the next 9 years and at two different restaurants in Northwest Indiana, Jose, used his learned experiences and utilized his passion for unique and creative food, became Executive Chef at each restaurant, overseeing both casual and fine dining. Applying more than 21 years in the restaurant business, Jose decided it was time for a flavorful, family oriented, and locally-owned restaurant to open in their community. Jose combines his back-of-the-house experience with a palette pleasuring convenient dining experience with each meal at JC Bocatas.
After many years of working outside of his community, Jose, along with his wife, Claudia, and their greatest treasure; their son Jacob, decided it was time for a flavorful, family oriented, and locally-owned restaurant to open in their community. Jose, Claudia, and Jacob welcome you to their restaurant and hope your convenient dining experience is a joyful one. Caring for each other and the customer is top priority at JC Bocatas!
